Three-time NASCAR Winston Cup Champion and
FOX Sports Analyst Darrell Waltrip announced plans for a $5
Million, 30,000 square foot motor racing themed attraction that
will be located at Belle Island Village.
"Darrell Waltrip's Racing Experience" was the second
major attraction to be announced at Belle Island Village
. The venue will include such components as an interactive
theatre, competition radio-controlled cars, a racing simulator,
pit crew area, an arcade, and both permanent and rotating
exhibits ranging from 15-25 actual stock cars that have won a
variety of racing events.
Waltrip who is a long time resident of Franklin, TN, will
maintain continuous involvement in the attraction following its
opening by appearing for special events, involving fellow
drivers and promoting visits by racing celebrities throughout
the year. Waltrip, 57, entered his first stock car race on
a dirt track at the age of 16 with a 1936 Chevrolet coupe that
he and his father built. His racing experience grew, and
by the late 1960's he became a fixture in Nashville at the
city's fairgrounds track. His first NASCAR Winston Cup
start took place in 1972 at Talladega, AL.
Waltrip's career highlights include being named by NASCAR as
Driver Of The Decade for the 1980's. Today, he serves as a
broadcast analyst for FOX Sports, where he has developed a large
following with racing enthusiasts through his engaging
personality and first-hand knowledge of the sport.,
